Heating & Cooling Maintenance

Posted on: No Comments

Heating and cooling systems will keep you feeling comfortable year-around with proper attention and maintenance.

Heat pump systems and the oil fired furnaces as well as boilers need a yearly professional tune-up. Gas fire equipment, on the other hand, will burn cleaner and can be serviced every other year. With a close inspection from a certified technician will help fix leaks, soot, rust, frayed wires and corroded electrical contacts from occurring. With maintenance on furnace, forced-air, and boiler, hot water systems the inspection should also include the chimney, ductwork, pipes, dampers or valves, blower or pump, registers or radiators.

Maintenance should also involve the fuel lines, gas meter or the oil tank- as well as every part of the furnace or boiler itself. After this, the system should be run through a full heating cycle to make sure it has enough combustion air and chimney draft.

Lastly, cleaning the burner and heat exchanger, to remove soot and other gunk, will prevent such buildup from impeding smooth operation. For the burner, efficiency hinges on adjusting the flame to correct size and color, adjusting the flow of gas or changing the fuel filter in the oil-fired system. A check for your heat pump should also include an inspection of the compressor, indoor and outdoor coils. The fan and refrigerant lines as well.

The indoor and outdoor coils should be cleaned, and the refrigerant pressure should get checked.
